Photography as art and legacy
The eighth edition of PalmaPhoto has had this year great artists of photography. Big names of visual art have been exhibited in 15 galleries, three cultural centres, a museum and other alternative spaces in Palma in a very complete night. Including the New Yorker Robert Mapplethorpe and Japanese Nobuyoshi Araki, exhibited at the art gallery Pelaires, or the Spanish Diana Coca, whose collection “Made in China” was shown at the art gallery SKL.
I would like to highlight the collection “España oculta” (Hidden Spain), from the Spanish photographer Cristina Garcia Rodero (member of Magnum Photos), for her ability to excite and document with beautiful portraits the Spanish society in the years immediately following the Franco’s regime. As part of the Contemporary Art Collection, CaixaForum hosts this exhibition that explores villages from different regions of Spain between 1975 and 1988. 75 photos of great artistic value and great anthropological depth document life forms linked to rural Spain with a unique look that is completely away from topics. In short, this is a unique exhibition, which could be seen in CaixaForum until the next 26th of August.
