The Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre at the highest level
The 31st edition of the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre held between 16 and 21 July in waters of the bay of Palma de Mallorca, presented new features highlights such as a spectacular new village in Sa Faixina, the full international mini-maxi fleet, and the Soto 40 class division with the 8 units racing in European waters. In spite of the current economic situation the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre has once again managed to gather a fleet of 115 boats from 19 countries which includes the six mini-maxis racing worlwide, two of which, Stick and Bella Mente, are brand new designs, and five TP52 units.
A Village to bring the race to the city of Palma
The Real Club Náutico de Palma introduced for the first time a Village in Sa Feixina Park, a community center that is hosting each day to more than 4,000 people, with the aim of providing the opportunity to live closely the most important competition in the Mediterranean. The music scene is signed by leading Spanish DJs, including Igor Tchkotoua, Rossy de Palma, Cristina Tossío and DJ Baby Kat, Tito Bay, Bimba Bose, David Dolphin and Mario Vaquerizo. They recreate a musical firmament never met in Spain so far. Open from 18 pm to 2 am, the Village of the Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre is a meeting point to follow the races, have fun, enjoy good food, drinks and music.
Origin of the most prestigious regatta in the Mediterranean
The first edition of this prestigious competition took place in 1982, attended by around 50 vessels, in which the winner was the Italian ship Nat. Over the years the Spanish fleet has been gaining prominence and even today their owners, skippers and crew help to strengthen the Copa del Rey as one of the best races of high competition in Spain and the Mediterranean.
