The German Requiem of Brahms will be performed for the benefit of the charity 'Projecte Home' in Palma Cathedral
The Cathedral will once again this year be the stage for this cultural and charitable spectacular which has become a tradition, the benefit concert for the charity "Project Home Balears". The event will once more be performed by the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra accompanied by the soprano Maia Planas and baritone José A. López, all of whom will be led by conductor Joan Company.
This year the performance of The German Requiem by Brahms will be taking place the next 14th of April at 20.30pm. The German Requiem is a meditation upon life and death based on the biblical texts. It was played in Europe and Brahms began to be considered a great composer.
Brahms drew up the first drafts of the work in 1861 and the main volume of it from 1866, after his mother´s and his guardian Robert Schumann´s death. The work is considered a blend of the cantata and oratorio, where the sensibility is close to the compassion and optimism, which draws it away from the Requiem in the liturgical sense. The tickets are available on the web page www.ticketmaster.es, and the benefit of the sales will be destinated on social work Projecte Home with Tomeu Català.
