Traditional bull run in Fornalutx
During the fiesta of the ‘Mother of God of September’, Fornalutx holds a big spectacle on Friday 6th September in the early morning. It is the yearly and historic bull run of the village where a young yet strong bull gets chosen to be the main spectator. He is attached to a rope not allowing him to run wild. Young and strong men from Fornalutx and surrounding villages try to rein him and run along controlling the bull’s movements, this way it is quiet a safe celebration.
Visitors from all over the island come to witness the event and sympathize with the bull. Once the participants and the heavy animal of approx. 400 kilos have passed through the village streets, the animal is caught, slaughtered and distributed among the participants of the bull run.
Like every year, protests by animal rights activists are expected this Friday, as this traditional event is very criticised by them.
But also to those, who do not want to take the bull by the horns, Fornalutx is a most attractive destination and peaceful place to relax. International visitors of distinguished taste appreciate the village and many of them chose it as their second residence.
