Valldemossa International Chopin Festival (XXXII Edition)
The 32nd International Chopin Festival is happening in Valldemossa at the charterhouse, where connoisseurs of classical music and amateurs of Chopin highlight the date in their agenda year after year to enjoy the interpretations of the most celebrated pianists from all over the world.
The composer Frédéric Chopin lived a winter in Majorca in 1838. His accommodation has been the former monastery in Valldemossa and is nowadays open to the public, showing even the original piano on which the musician created the famous Reindrop Prelude. The first to perform has been the pianist Gustavo Díaz Jerez last Sunday in the monastery. On Sunday, 12th of August at 22 pm follows the concert of the Russian pianist Alexei Volodin with Impromptus, Barcarolle, Polonaise-Fantasy and 24 Preludes.
Leif Ove Andsnes, "a pianist of magisterial elegance, power and insight" according to the New York Times, as well put Valldemossa on the diary during his European Tour. On Sunday, 19th of August he will perform additionally to Chopin’s waltz and ballades, two sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, too. The cycle of concerts ends with 28-year-old Bulgarian Evgeni Bozhanov on Sunday, 26th of August.
Al concerts start at 22 pm. A variety of music events, classical as much as popular, enrich life in the landscape oft he Tramuntana.
